:: From the above link, The Millennial Generation. Been saying this for like two years now--we're gonna pass stuff like marriage equality because more and more progressives keep turning 18 and registering to vote! (from americanprogress.org):
One likely consequence of the Millennial generation’s rise is an end to the so-called culture wars that have marked American politics for the last several decades. Acrimonious disputes about family and religious values, feminism, gay rights, and race have frequently crippled progressives’ ability to make their case to the average American. Millennials support gay marriage, take race and gender equality as givens, are tolerant of religious and family diversity, have an open and positive attitude toward immigration, and generally display little interest in fighting over the divisive social issues of the past. Almost two-thirds agree that religious faith should focus more on promoting tolerance, social justice, and peace in society, and less on opposing abortion or gay rights.

Right. The fuck. ON.

Christianity: The belief that life and all of the universe is a gift from an imaginary magic spirit who lives in space and is angry at all humans because a woman he made of spare ribs was talked into eating the fruit from a magic tree by a talking snake. This is the same magic spirit who later came down and impregnated a virgin so he could have a son who would be killed and turned into a zombie. This was so that people could eat the meat and drink the blood from his zombie body and be saved from the stigma of what that rib-woman did by eating the magic fruit that made the magic spirit mad in the first place. Only by eating this magic zombie flesh and blood, and telepathically pledging their lives to him, can the descendants of the spare-rib woman be forgiven and follow his son whom he sent to save them from himself.

If people want to get married by the rites of their church, whether it's the Catholic Church or the Church of All Worlds, that's fine with me and I wish them all mazel tov (or the Martian equivalent.) I totally support the church's right to say who may or may not be married within its tradition. HOWEVER, this joyful religious ceremony should have NO standing under U.S. law, any more than baptism has. In this country, Church and State are separate.

Let adults wishing to legally share their resources and responsibilities with their adult cohabitants go down to City Hall and file a contract specifying the details of their arrangement. The number and sex of the signers and which (if any) of them are sharing a bed should be NO business of the State's.

Schempp, who holds a Ph.D. from Brown University, said he is a firm believer in the role of science and its dominance over religion. He is an accomplished physicist and was involved in the development of the MRI.

He said devotion to science is what made it difficult to believe in religion.

"The Bible is not a book of truth - no more than any other book written 2,000 years ago," he said.

It is because of these feelings that Schempp has devoted much of his life to limiting prejudice against atheists and increasing the separation of church and state. He finds the idea of forcing young children to recite prayers to be ludicrous, as they are doing so without meaning.

"Robots are neither patriotic nor spiritual," he said.

Ultimately, Schempp said he sees himself not as a critic of religion but as a firm believer in the First Amendment and the freedom of choice.

He told the audience to remember, "The Constitution mentions religion only twice, and both times 'no' is attached to it."

:: From [info]zevshir, this gem of an April Fools' joke:

This is too funny.
The PA Wing website (www.pawingcap.com) has been updated for April Fool's Day. Here's a sample:

Notice of Proposed Regulation
Wednesday, 01 Apr 2009, by JColgan

Part 2, Section 972 (a) 1 (c)

Section I
No CAP member, or person or persons acting on the direction or suggestion or supervision of a CAP member, may try, or attempt to try, or make attempt to try to comprehend or understand any or all, in whole or in part, of the herin mentioned Regulation, except as authorized by the National Commander or an agent appointed by, or inspected by the National Commander.

Section II
If a CAP member or any group of members becomes aware of or realizes, or detects, or discovers, finds that he/she, or they are understanding or have been beginning to understand the Regulations, they must immediately, within three (3) days, notify, in writing, in triplicate, the National Legal Officer using CAPF 129a, Notice of Impending Comprehension.

Section III
Upon receipt of the above-mentioned notice of impending comprehension, the National Legal Officer shall immediately rewrite the Regulation that is in imminent danger of being understood. Such rewriting shall be done in such a manner to eliminate any further hazard of comprehension.

Section IV
The National Commander may, at his/her discretion, require the offending CAP member or members to attend remedial instruction on Regulations until such time that the CAP member or members is too confused to be capable of understanding anything.

We are Unitarian Jihad. We are everywhere. We have not been born again, nor have we sworn a blood oath. We do not think that God cares what we read, what we eat or whom we sleep with. Brother Neutron Bomb of Serenity notes for the record that he does not have a moral code but is nevertheless a good person, and Unexalted Leader Garrote of Forgiveness stipulates that Brother Neutron Bomb of Serenity is a good person, and this is to be reflected in the minutes.

And some more win:

Brother Gatling Gun of Patience notes that he's pretty sure the world is out to get him because everyone laughs when he says he is a Unitarian. There were murmurs of assent around the room, and someone suggested that we buy some Congress members and really stick it to the Baptists. But this was deemed against Revolutionary Principles, and Brother Gatling Gun of Patience was remanded to the Sunday Flowers and Banners committee.

People of the United States! We are Unitarian Jihad! We can strike without warning. Pockets of reasonableness and harmony will appear as if from nowhere! Nice people will run the government again! There will be coffee and cookies in the Gandhi Room after the revolution.

:: From [info]quirkybird, a lovely poem called "Woe".

Woe!

It is true, our tribe is similar to the bees,
It gathers honey of wisdom, carries it, stores it in honeycombs.
I am able to roam for hours
Through the labyrinth of the main library, floor to floor.
But yesterday, looking for the words of masters and prophets,
I wandered into high regions
That are visited by practically no one.
I would open a book and could decipher nothing.
For letters faded and disappeared from the pages.
Woe! I exclaimed-so it comes to this?
Where are you, venerable ones, with your beards and wigs,
Your nights spent by a candle, griefs of your wives?
So a message saving the world is silenced forever?
At your home it was the day of making preserves.
And your dog, sleeping by the fire, would wake up,
Yawn, and look at you, as if knowing.
