"I'm very much against ALL marriage, except in the religious sense. If people want to get married by the rites of their church, whether it's the Catholic Church or the Church of All Worlds, that's fine with me and I wish them all mazel tov (or the Martian equivalent.) I totally support the church's right to say who may or may not be married within its tradition. HOWEVER, this joyful religious ceremony should have NO standing under U.S. law, any more than baptism has. In this country, Church and State are separate.

Let adults wishing to legally share their resources and responsibilities with their adult cohabitants go down to City Hall and file a contract specifying the details of their arrangement. The number and sex of the signers and which (if any) of them are sharing a bed should be NO business of the State's.
